You know what the most massive benefit would be to roundabouts? Fuel economy. I started "hyper-miling" to a lesser degree than the crazy people out there. Paying close attention to the lights in front of me and taking my foot off the gas to not use my brakes etc. I have 4 different 4 way stops on my way to my in-laws house. I would bet I can improve my fuel economy by a minimum of 2mpg if I remove the 4-way stops and replace them with roundabouts.

Yup. Mine would probably go up 3mpg if I could get the 4 I encounter every day changed over. Mostly because I am not light on the gas pedal in the morning.

I've noted a large improvement in MPG taking a route to work that involves minimal stops. Now that they put up two roundabouts on my route, I'm expecting MPG to go up even further.

If all the stupid people that can't figure out how they work would avoid them, life would be much better for the rest of us.

Yes and no.

Whilst roundabouts can be good for fuel economy because you don't have to stop, they can be a total pain in the arse when it comes to traffic.

First off, because you don't have lights thinking for everyone, you sometimes have to be quick to get in without waiting too long. Bad for fuel.

Also, they can really suck if its a busy day. You don't just stop and wait for the lights, you're moving forward bit by bit as every car enters the roundabout. Bad for fuel.
